Good afternoon Brothers and Sisters. My thoughts today are from John’s Gospel. I enjoy all four of the Gospel accounts of the life of Jesus, but John’s Gospel gives me the most comfort and assurance. Considering recent world events, comfort and assurance are much-needed commodities. John 14 describes the conversation that took place in the Upper Room before Jesus’s crucifixion. The Disciples were troubled, confused and more than a little scared.
Jesus reassures them (verse 27) “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
We’re all probably anxious and unsure what the next weeks will hold. What we can be sure of is this: GOD is still in control (even if we don’t know His purposes) and we have “the peace that passes all understanding” because of our unshakeable faith in Jesus as well as the constant presence of the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. This peace is a gift to us from GOD not from this world. Because we possess the Peace of GOD, Jesus can tell us neither be troubled nor afraid. Nothing touches GOD’S Children that first hasn’t passed through the Father’s Hands. May the Peace of GOD comfort us as the GOD of Peace guides us. Stay Strong, Stay Focused, and Stay Vigilant. Mike
