Beware The Mirror

Tonight’s verses are from James 1:23-24 “For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror: For he beholds himself, and goes his way, and immediately forgets what manner of man he was.”

James talks of the relationship between faith and works and uses a man who looks in a mirror as a comparison. The mirror gives an accurate reflection of the object before it. Every detail is visible, every mark of beauty as well as every blemish. Now we can try to rub that blemish off the mirror, but no matter how hard we try we’re not going to remove that spot from the mirror. The blemish isn’t on the mirror, it’s on the object. We can read the Word and see our flaws from what the Word reveals. Now days we try to erase the parts of the Word that reveal our sin. We close the Word, walk away unchanged. We do the same thing when we leave the Sunday service or any Bible study unchanged by what we’ve heard, read or studied. And we are just like the man who walks away from the mirror, he forgets what he saw, forgets the blemishes and spots that GOD just showed him. I pray we remember what GOD reveals to us and we allow Him free rein to mold us, shape us more in the image of Christ. GOD’S PEACE, Mike
